IGTOA Launches Campaign to Provide Clean Water to Ecuador's Earthquake Survivors

IGTOA and its member companies extend our deepest condolences to the victims and survivors of the massive that struck Ecuador on Saturday. According to news reports, there have been at least 570 reported fatalities, 155 people are missing, 7,015 are injured and close to 25,000 remain in shelters. It is the worst natural disaster to hit the country in decades.

Rumors have been circulating that there are severe water shortages within the disaster zone and yesterday the government of Ecuador announced that access to clean water is the most urgent need for quake survivors.

In response to this announcement, IGTOA and its member companies have partnered with the nonprofits The Waterbearers and Waves for Water to purchase and deliver Sawyer clean water filtration systems within the disaster zone.  Our goal is raise at least $10,000, which will allow us to purchase 200 units. Each unit can serve up to 100 people for ten years and produce 200 gallons of water per day (or up to one million gallons in a decade!). The Sawyer filter attains the highest level of filtration currently available and removes harmful bacteria, protozoa, and cysts like E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae and Salmonella typhi (which cause Cholera and Typhoid).

You can support this important and urgent effort by clicking on the link below and making a contribution to our campaign. 100% of your donation will go to providing Clean Water Filtration Systems and training in Ecuador's earthquake relief effort.
